Berlin Sand Mountains (Berliner Sandberge)

Berlin took me in. Berlin is not a house. It's a plate with no protective edges. A huge flat urban area built on sand. A place of constant change. Decorative patterns of creative, political, social and economic ingredients are constantly growing and fading. Incalculable masses of large and small busy crawlers are busy 24 hours a day, incessantly searching, rebuilding and discarding. Nothing prevents the emergence of mountains of visions. Hopes are raised, projects are started, energies are piled up. New glitter stuff stands next to old scars and in between magical emptiness. Building sites carry symbolic meaning. Mountains of sand, rubble and other materials form timelessly beautiful and simple allegories for a short time. In Berlin, mountains are not symbols for eternity, but signs and traces of change in the perpetual search. As a Swiss, recently living in Berlin, I feel the need to pay my respects to Berlin. Although the city offers motivically significant historical landmarks, I prefer the mountain motif. Berlin feeds my creativity, I penetrate the pictorial, the external, find solutions in Berlin's ever growing and passing mountain world.
